Classic vs. modern design

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Most homes today, which are getting rid of old TV sets, are opting for LCD TVs. Its sleek style occupies very less storage space. There is an option of mounting it on the wall but if you do not want to do any work on walls then you will have to buy a new TV stand because the old one will definitely not work with this new flat TV.

Glass and chrome is more popular choices for LCD TV stands these days but still the classic and timeless wood stands out. Wood looks more aesthetically appealing and blends well with old furniture. These days wooden TV stands come in modern designs to house a LCD TV. It is also a very durable material, which makes it a good choice for a TV stand. TV Stands made of glass can not be used for homes which have children.

There are ready to assemble kits also available in wood which also offer a cheap alternative. If you want to save money then you can look around for designs on net and retail shops and get a wooden TV stands made at home with a carpenter. This custom made TV stand will have shelves and partitions as per your requirements.

Garmin Products

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I have been trying to choose between all of the different garmin products to try to decide which aircraft satellite navigation system to buy. There are a few differences between them all including the price. I firstly liked the Garmin 496 but then when I started reading about all of the other types of garmin products I started to think that they were all good. It is a bit tricky though because I do have a budget but I also have certain requirements and I want good value for money. The Garmin 695 caught my attention as it fitted all of these requirements but then I looked at the Garmin 696 and realised that it had some functions which, although they were not on my requirements list, would be really useful to me. The problem is that it was just a bit dearer than my budget. I am in a bit of a dilemma now and I am taking a very long time making a decision because I know that once I make it, there is no changing my mind and this will be a purchase that I hope will last for a very long time so it needs to be right.

Special Functionalities - Trail camera & Digital rangefinder

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Trail cameras are popular for its much new functionality. One such feature is the time lapse function. In this we just need to place the camera in a position and program it to take pictures in some time intervals. This feature is widely used nowadays in many wild life channels which show various stages of growth of animals or even for plants. This feature is used based on the imagination of the user. The normal video where this technology is used is to capture a pupa becoming a butterfly. This shows the users talent and creative ability. Digital rangefinder cameras work on digital imaging technology. This technology was applied for range finder cameras in 2004. Epson RD1 is the first digital rangefinder camera, which is actually collaboration between Epson and Casino. Most of the digital rangefinder cameras have the same interchangeable lens used on their film or non digital counterparts. Most of the digital rangefinder cameras are expensive when compared to SLRS. There are some advantages and disadvantages of digital rangefinder cameras over SLR cameras. There is no moving mirror in the Digital rangefinder cameras so the momentary black out are avoided making it more prominent in the film industry.

Electronic Arts wants to help people get fit, too

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Following in the footsteps of Nintendo’s popular “Wii Fit,” the video game publisher known for the “Madden” football games is jumping into fitness software targeted mostly at women.

Electronic Arts Inc. on Thursday announced a new line, EA Sports Active, that runs on the Nintendo Wii console and aims to complement, not compete with, Nintendo’s “Wii Fit” exercise title.

Peter Moore, president of EA Sports, called the new brand, whose first title launches next March, a “somewhat radical departure from the normal game experiences we provide customers.”

EA’s sports audience has been mostly young men, who have flocked to football, soccer, basketball and hockey titles to make the company the world’s dominant player in sports video games.

But to stay competitive with rivals such as Activision Blizzard Inc., whose success with games like “World of Warcraft” and “Rock Band” seems to be weathering the recession, EA needs to continue to expand its audience.

The company’s new brand seeks to take advantage of the popularity of the Nintendo console and of exercise games. While the “Wii Fit” is already enormously popular, Moore, a former physical-education teacher, said EA’s sports software will run people through an exercise routine with a more Western approach than the Japanese company’s product.

“Wii Fit” includes activities like running, skiing as well as yoga, and it emphasizes balance as well as fitness. EA’s products will include exercises like running and lunges, as well as simulations of sports such as tennis.

The games use straps to attach the Wii’s controller and “nunchuk” attachment to a player’s body, so the fitness routines can be performed without holding the controls. It also includes a resistance band. Titles in the line will cost about $60, the same as a regular video game.

Why is it better for the environment to travel on a train than a plane?

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Planes are far worse polluters than trains, but if you fly on a plane that is going to be flying to your destination anyway, and your going on the plane does not mean that additional flights are necessary to accommodate everyone who wants to go to your destination, then how is that worse for the environment than going on a train?

The more weight a plane carries, the more fuel it uses. Thus even if it is a small difference, the emptier the plane is the more efficient it will be.

One reason the airlines are getting rid of in flight movies is because the equipment to show them weighs 500#. So they must consider that a savings.

Sony DSC-W70 memory stick problem?

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

I have used my camera for about a year and a half now. It has a 500 MB memory stick, and everything has worked well until recently.
The memory stick seems to have decreased in size.
The icon in the display shows only about one-third full even when there are no photos in the camera, and it fills up really fast now.
Does anyone know what to do about this? Do memory sticks wear out with age?

Yes, you really should format your memory stick (in the camera’s Menu) regularly.
But, make sure you ONLY format it AFTER you have transferred all images to your computer first. Because formatting will delete everything from the memory stick/card.

So, in general…format your memory stick everytime you need to delete all the images from it…

———

When was the last time you formatted the card? You need to do this after each use to keep it refreshed and prevent file corruption.

Memory cards are so inexpensive now, buying a 2GB card might be a good addition to your camera bag
