Cultural Difference?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I am a german american living in socal. And people make fun of the fact that my opa fought in WWII for nazi germany. He himself was not a nazi. And so they call me a nazi just becuz i am proud of my heritage. Now if someone were to make fun of mexicans or the chinese they would get all defensive, but sense not many people in Socal are german i have no support. WOUld this happen in places in the east coast like pennsylvania?

this does not happen on the east coast. Plus u can not count ur grandfather as a Nazi. A Nazi is a political party that took over Germany. It does nothing with race issues what so ever. Every culture has something bad.

Russians- wet crazy with communism
Jews- fascist and is currently doing genocide to Palestinians
Cuban- try to buy nukes
British- snooty

——–

There are ignorant people everywhere who will insult you for no good reason. No one should seriously consider you responsible for anything that your ancestors did, no matter what the nature of the action was.

Since I’ve only visited — and never lived in Socal — I can’t comment on how judgmental people there may be. But I can tell you that you are more likely to find people tolerant of your situation where there are more people of backgrounds similar to yours — and there are plenty of people of German heritage in Pennsylvania (and Maryland).

Where does the money come from that goes to people who receive welfare?

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

I am wondering- is it part of the taxes we pay that funds welfare? Where does all the money come from that funds welfare recipients? & why does the government continue to give people more & more when they keep having children?

Well, to answer the first question, it comes from our tax dollars. As to the second part…theoretically they get more money because they have increased need. Maybe I’m heartless, but I believe that if you have to have government assistance to feed yourself, you should STOP HAVING CHILDREN!

———

The money comes from taxes and more money is paid for each child because it is not the child’s fault that the parents created it without the means to support it.

Welfare reforms have occured in the last 10 years that have dramatically reduced the problem of providing incentives for welfare mothers to have more kids to increase the size of the welfare check. Many states now require various steps to remain in the welfare system that are firm enough to induce welfare mothers to take the job training and child care offerings and get gainful employment.

Wisconsin had a groundbreaking welfare reform program back in the 1990’s that was widely lauded as successful by many. It required an initial investment by the state and federal government that cost more than just maintaining the old welfare system would have, on the theory that the only way to break the cycle of dependency was to provide job training and child care along with firm requirements to work your way out of welfare. I believe the program is generally regarded as having worked over time economically. There are some effects of the program that are still being studied, but its perceived here in Wisconsin as having been successful in moving a lot of families off the welfare rolls.

Can anyone help me with these two simple economics questions ?

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

i have two multiple choice questions.

1) which statement is true?
a. both keynes & the classicals believed that equilibrium GDP & full employment GDP are equal.
b. neither keynes nor the classicals believed that equilibrium GDP & full employment GDP are equal.
c. keynes believed that equilibrium GDP & full employment GDP are equal, but classicals did not.
d. the classicals believed that equilibrium GDP & full employment GDP are equal, but keynes did not.

2. WHen we are at full employment
a. the unemployment rate is 0
b. the cyclical unemployment rate is 0. (answer i chose)
c. the structural unemployment rate is 0.
d. the frictional unemployment rate is 0.
e. none of the above

I think the first one is A because accounted for the full employment output at equilibrium. The difference is the elasticity of aggregate supply.

For the second question, you chose correctly, because frictional unemployment deals with mobility, and structural unemployment still occurs when the economy is at full production. There is no structural unemployment at full output, though.

Where can I find a “perfect society”?

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Unfortunately there is no such thing. No matter how well planned a society may be, there will always be people who disagree over one thing or another. Therefore sacrifices must be made “for the good of the whole.” This will not be perceived as “perfect” by the dissenters. It’s how rebellions and revolutions start.

Finding a place that you can be happy in will depend on your personality, preferences, and trial & error. The best thing you can probably do is surround yourself with tolerant and loving people, and try to be happy. Don’t ignore the bad things, but realize that they are inevitable.

——-

That is one place you will never find, for starters no one is perfect, so we could never produce a perfect society, as it seem that no matter where you go there always seems to be some kind of trouble, and it is only in the eyes of a child that certain places are “perfect” what a shame that as their grow older they get disillusioned, and reality hits them.

Seriously, what is wrong with men?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007
  1. I’m sorry for what you’ve had to go through, but, no, not all guys are jerks
  2. Perhaps you need to meet some males worthy of your attention. We’re not all that way.
  3. I agree that not ALL men are jerks, but it seems like all the men you have met are. You need a change of scenery girl. Get out of that hell you call “home” and you may start to meet some decent people (even guys)
  4. You have a very common life.Know that your story isnt very different than than the next woman. What i say is if you always look where you always look you will always get what you get.Try newer surroundings. And good luck!
  5. You tell me what makes all men in your life like this. if you can’t change them for better don’t let them change you. have a faith and try to make your life better always.

believe it or not there are some fantastic men out there, you just have to know where to look. nobody can make excuses for what has happened to you, and none of it is your fault. your brother is probably harbouring some issues though, regarding the father and step father situation, as you probably know, your father and step father would have been the role models for your brothers behaviour. this doesnt make it right though. maybe you should talk to him, him may not even know he is the way he is. you also need to talk to someone (ie a psychotherapist) about what has happened to you, if you havent already, they will help you deal with what happened as well as give you some more self confidence. as for the boys at your school, all boys are like that, and maybe making friends with some girls wouldnt be a bad idea, but be choosy, as you will probably confide in them your deepest darkest secrets. as for the guy who told you to go away, it could be that he had more on his mind thatn you know about, and he is finding it hard to deal with his problems as well as yours (he could have been a bit nicer though). you never know, he might have been the nice guy you are looking for and may care about you a hell of a lot, which then it would hurt him to see you in so much pain.
sorry about the long winded reply, but i hope i helped.

  1. hang in there.youve just had one hell of a life so far.were not all assholes.i wish the best for you because more than likely your going to or probably already do have major trust issues when it is going to involve us.i wish i could of been the most recent friend of yours because what i need more than anything right now is a female friend.not trying to get a laugh from the guys.lifes a strange place.it’ll be alright.it’ll all work out.
  2. Really, not all of them are jerks, but the majority are. Don’t worry you are 17 you will meet a lot of good guys. May be you need to try some time to avoid friendship with men. See what will happen, may be you need to take your time.
  3. After reading your post…
I’m sorry that you had to go through all that…
Try joining a “support”-group, as in just a group of people coming together having some fun.
I’m a Christian youth leader, and we have a youth programme.
I’m sure you could probably find something somewhere that would fit you.

By the way. I believe everything happens for a reason. Keep your chin up. Stay positive.
If you get through this, you will be an ambassador for women who have the same problems. And perhaps you can even help them. Let that motivate you.
But first. Help yourself. You are strong. You CAN get through this.

  4. U have gone through some big difficulties! All I can say is ur plain unlucky regards to males. Hope you find a nice person soon.

This is the first time I’ve had a dream where I actually decide to stop running?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007
  1. Usually if I dream that I am running it is because I have a problem that is bothering me. I’d say things have settled down for you and going smoothly. I hope I am right for you.
  2. I really don’t know. But I don’t like pit-bull…..
  3. It may been you’ve decided to face whatever problems you have and deal with them, rather than run away from them. I think this is a very positive dream for you.
  4. Stop handling dogs to avoid dreams about being bitten!
  5. You are coming to grips with a situation in your life. You have avoided for too long. You have run away from the situation, not wishing to face it, for fear of failure/defeat. You have come to a place in your life where you have the confidence and intelligence to solve the problem.
  6. It means you’re ready to face your fear.

Is it possible to control our dreams when sleeping?

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

What you are talking about is called lucid dreaming. I think, with practice, it is possible. Ever seen the movie Waking Life? After watching that, I was obsessed with lucid dreaming for a while. It’s difficult though, and I’m not sure it makes for the most restful sleep. But, in your case, I guess it’s better than nightmares.
