Creative baby shower decoration

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Baby shower is an event hosted for the mother to be and her baby. Usually baby shower event has a central theme around which everything is planned, from decorations, and food, to favors.

For any theme, pastel shades like blues, pinks, greens, pale yellow are a must and these should be used for streamers, balloons, napkins, or cutlery. Baby shower decorations also require a little planning and time. For a baby theme, one can put bibs and as mats or use pacifiers, bottles, teddies all around the party area. A baby bottle can be used to keep colorful straws together. Some innovative thoughts like using teething rings as napkin holders can add fun to the party.

Diaper cakes are good baby shower decoration pieces which can be given as gifts to the mother after the event. A diaper cake is a two or three tier wedding type cake; however, it is not edible and made of diapers. One can get creative and make diaper cakes at home, using pacifiers, bottles, teething rings, booties, socks as decorative items. Blue or pink or even pastel green color ribbons can be used to tie the diapers together. A cute soft toy or small baby gift can be used to top the diaper cake

You can have more creativity and a better memory

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

For anyone, creativity is something that gives way to new ideas and issues. It may be individually or team work also-as in an office where team work is done. Whatever be the case, you need to bring out various people form their hiding grounds that is from their shell and expose them so that they work for a better future. Lets take the example of the Australian Aborigines- who are the original inhabitants of Australia. From time immorable, maybe even before they have any written records, they had been leading a nomadic, gypsy life, the crudest way to live. But as years advanced, they have started evolving from this pattern of life to lead a settled life today. The reason behind this is their adapting different methods of improving civilization. Earlier most of them lived in rural areas of New South Wales, the Northern territory, Queensland and Western Australia. Gradually a growing number of younger Aborigines have moved to cities. Regardless of where they live, the Aborigines generally lag far behind white Australians, in education and income, another factor determining their hard work, creativity and perseverance.

Today many Aborigines want a greater voice in deciding their own affairs. Their need for improvement, creativity and dreams of their bright future has created aid for them at the same time helped them in passing on knowledge of their land to others in turn learning new things from them. Such stories, even fairy tales leave a deep imprint on your minds, which assist you in finding new methods for your daily use. Day dreaming, or dreaming in itself is a healthy creative act because you get to be inspired to achieve what you dream. If you find difficulty in remembering your dreams, night messages, make a note of them and visualize later; they will be useful to you at some time or other. You get new ideas when you are deep in thought, and you know where your problem is, so finding remedy is easy. Give your thoughts freedom of movement because creativity doesn’t flourish under restrictions. Make a mental note of new thoughts and ideas; give way for other thoughts to emerge freely that is the name for creativity.

Kashmir Singh savours the sight of green fields

Friday, August 15th, 2008

The atmosphere is still charged in Kashmir Singh’s house. His eldest son has not yet put the cap back on the whisky bottle opened to celebrate his father’s release from a Pakistani jail early this month.

After languishing in many Pakistani jails for nearly 35 years, Kashmir Singh is now savouring every moment of his freedom - greeting visitors, hugging friends and answering phone calls of well wishers in his modest house at Nangal Choran village in Punjab.

“I was arrested on the 22nd milestone on the Peshawar-Rawalpindi road by Pakistani authorities,” says Kashmir Singh as he gorges on fried potato paranthas cooked by wife Paramjit.

“Let me finish my breakfast and I’ll share everything with you,” he says, calling out for another parantha and some yoghurt.

“Will you have breakfast?” he asks. The years behind the bars have not rusted his sense of hospitality.

“Jannab (sir) you can’t understand what it feels to be free after 35 years in jail. God has been kind - at least I can die in my own country,” adds the 67-year-old.

Words fail him as he tries to make one see what freedom means to him. “The size of my cell was 7×7 feet only.”

“Thirty five years is a lifetime,” he says. “I was in solitary confinement for over 17 years, chained from chest to feet.”

“You see my ankles,” he says, raising his pyjamas to show the permanent bruises and swelling bearing testimony to his tales.

Then all of a sudden he changes the topic as if he is in a hurry to make up for the lost time. “Look at the green wheat fields around,” he says.

“The whole village landscape has changed. There’s more prosperity. You can see that from the cement houses,” he said. “The village well has also shifted.”

There are moments when he still cannot believe that all of this is true. “Past life haunts me and at times it gets difficult for me to believe that I’m absolutely free to do whatever I want to, go wherever I feel like and meet anybody of my choice.

“I am very grateful to Hoshiarpur Member of Parliament Avinash Rai Khanna and Ansar Burney, Pakistan human rights minister, for taking notice of my family’s and my plight,” said Kashmir.

But all the joy and gratitude cannot hide the bitterness in the man. “I have dedicated my life to the nation, and what have I got in return?” he asks.

“Thirty-five years of prison life? There was no one to take care of my family in my absence, my second son Sishpal got polio,” says Kashmir, lashing out at the authorities for letting him down.

Sishpal, sitting silently sitting next to him, comforts his father by chanting - “whatever happens, happens for the good”.

“Let us look ahead,” says Shishpal, holding his father’s hand.

“What else do you want to know?” asks Kashmir, by now experienced in tackling the media.

Since many other countries have official languages…

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Why is the US so scared to adopt one? Who cares what the world, or new immigrants think; this is our country, and you should speak our language, or leave! (this includes people who have been here a while). If you can’t do that, don’t come to me for help. I don’t speak your language, and I don’t use sign language, except for the deaf. If you can’t communicate with me in my language

Well, I think you’re correct in your implied assumption that the US has a right to adopt an official language if the citizens want one. But there are a number of historical and political reasons why we have never had one and probably won’t have one for some time.
First of all, we see ourselves as an egalitarian society in which we don’t exclude people from our country unless we have a very good reason. It fits in with out perceived image that we’re all fairly equal on a human value basis.
Secondly, we have a sort of myth that we’re a nation of immigrants, although one could legitimately ask how long people have to be here before they are not considered as immigrants. For example, my ancestors on my mother’s side have been here for over ten generations—at least since 1740. Really, where am I an immigrant from? I don’t consider myself as having any connection at all with any country other than the United States.
With the vast influx of immigrants, especially illegal ones, who have a strong resistance to being integrated into our language and cultural society, I think it may be time to require a certain facility with English before citizenship is granted. I know of people who have been here for fifty years and still can’t speak English. Some are not even citizens after all of that time. That, to me, indicates that these people want the financial benefits of being in the United States but reject it as a nation worthy of their loyalty.
I will be interested in seeing how other people feel about these issues.

About a third of the world’s nation-states have official language provisions in their constitutions. But few of these designate a single language for government. Some do so at enormous cost to civil liberties – Turkey, for example, has criminalized minority language usage in many contexts. Others elevate a single national language for purely symbolic, ceremonial purposes. But a larger number of constitutions include explicit provisions for minority rights, giving official status to more than one language. In practice, some of these guarantees are faithfully observed; some are ignored. Elsewhere language laws serve a planning function, for example, in post-colonial nations that remain linguistically diverse. Or they may seek to mediate ethnic rivalries.

In sum, it is impossible to generalize about the meaning of an official language. Political contexts vary enormously. It would mean one thing for a small “unilingual” country – Iceland, let’s say – to declare an official language as an emblem of national pride. It would mean quite another for the United States to do so, where the political impact would be to restrict and denigrate minority tongues that already are subordinate to English. And recently, it meant something else again when the colony of Puerto Rico ended its official bilingualism, imposed by military force in 1902, in favor of Spanish as its sole official language. (The new policy lasted barely two years, an indication of its unique political subtext: combat between Puerto Rico’s statehood and “commonwealth” forces.)

All this is not to say the United States should have no language policy. Quite the contrary. Now more than ever we need a comprehensive plan for managing language resources and ensuring language rights. But such a policy involves much more than simply designating an official tongue.
